Agnieszka Osiecka Agnieszka Osiecka’s Photographic Gift

27.10.2023 - 03.03.2024

The curse of the cult poet Agnieszka Osiecka is that she has been made into a celebrity on account of her lifestyle with many lovers and friends and parties fuelled by alcohol. Underneath it all, the human being disappeared. And Agnieszka was incredibly interesting, dazzling, intelligent and creative. In her lyrics she looked at human dramas, big and small, with wry amusement. She was a great observer and always hit the sensitive spots. As a teenager, she kept an amazing Diary. As a teenager, she knew several languages, read and analysed important literature, had a feel for cinema and theatre, wrote apt reviews and commented on political matters. She also found time for love, friendship, dancing and competitive swimming. Her Diary sets a challenge for teenagers.

MOCAK will show her photographic work. Osiecka did not take photographs with the intention of making them public. She treated photography as a tool for observing others. She refers to her taking photographs in her Diary. Some of her photographic concepts had a deliberate artistic slant. For example, a series of photographs from New York in which something red appears in the frame.

The exhibition will be accompanied by a publication with extensive excerpts from the Diary, recollections of people closer to the artist and further afield, as well as letters and photographs by Osiecka.
