Public Exchange: Reflections on Art and the City

Can art initiate a social change? What role does it play in the city?

We invite you to participate in the international educational project Public Exchange. Its programme comprises a series of meetings and workshops aiming to reflect on the relation between art, city and society. Th­e project is part of MOCAK’s broader educational activity intending to initiate changes in urban space to build a relationship between city inhabitants and artists and to promote the attitude of concern for the common good.

Presentation of art projects Art and the City
2 April 2014, 6 p.m.

An event dedicated to the relationship between art and city. We will show art projects carried out in urban space by Krakow’s cultural institutions, including the Faculty of Interior Design of Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, Institute of Painting and Art Education, Faculty of Art of the Pedagogical University of Cracow and MOCAK’s Education Department.

The session will be conducted in Polish and English. Free admission. Pre-registration not required.

Workshops: Th­e Art of Perception
3 April 2014, 12 noon

Workshops addressed to Polish and foreign students. Th­e participants will see Rune Eraker’s Uprooted exhibition will learn about the history of photography and reflect on its role in initiating social changes. ­The project will culminate in the group undertaking a number of photo assignments.

Workshops: Images of the District
5 April 2014, 12 noon

Workshops for Polish and foreign students inspired by Rune Eraker’s exhibition Uprooted. In the first part of the session the participants will consider ways of depicting social relationships and their environment. Next, the group will familiarise themselves with selected ‘frames’ of the district surrounding the Museum.

Th­e event will be held in English. Free admission. Pre-registration not required.

Student project presentation Public Exchange
14 April 2014, 6 p.m.

A meeting summing up the students’ art project in Zabłocie/Podgórze will start with a film screening. Zabłocie As Found shows the district’s past. Next, the students of the Faculty of Interior Design of the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, Students of Institute of Painting and Art Education, Faculty of Art of the Pedagogical University of Cracow and ­e Ruskin School of Art, University of Oxford will present the results of their cooperation.

The session will be conducted in Polish and English. Free admission. Pre-registration not required.
